  • About

The American Heart Association was founded in Chicago, Illinois by six cardiologists in 1924. The Association was inspired by a social worker who felt more could be done to help people who suffered heart attacks. From humble beginnings and with a vision of improving health around the world, the American Heart Association is now the nation’s oldest and largest voluntary organization dedicated to fighting heart disease and stroke and is committed to advancing health and hope for everyone, everywhere.

The American Heart Association, Central Ohio’s primary focus is to transform the health of our communities by collaborating with local community-based and health care organizations to achieve population level, sustainable changes focused on prevention and saving lives. We are prioritizing our efforts to improve blood pressure, reduce risk for women, prevent tobacco use, improve access to healthy food and address community readiness.
